Charles Leclerc finished the second day of testing top of the timing sheets with a 1:36.450s and completed 135 laps in the SF71H. The Monégasque racing driver will complete the Ferrari 2019 line-up alongside four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and Charles admitted that he is looking forward to working with Sebastian next season:
“Seb and I know each other well because as a Ferrari Driver Academy driver I worked a lot on the simulator, and on several occasions we met. Yesterday we talked a bit, not much, but it was interesting to hear his impressions and see him drive. For me it is important to dedicate my energy to the weak points, and in my case it will be important to learn from the team and my teammate. I have so many things yet to be discovered.” – Charles said, at the end of the testing session in Abu Dhabi.
“Today was special to drive the car knowing that next year I will be here, in this garage. But when you come on the track, you always want to show something, and from this point of view nothing has changed. I think it’s natural for a driver to try his best under any conditions. But I haven’t forgotten that today we were here to try the different tyres. Then I think it’s very important to start to get familiar with the work method, because every team always has its own approach, and in this respect it’s important to immediately get used to it for next year.” – Charles Leclerc added, as the Monégasque driver also talked about his goals for this testing session:
“Getting to know the team. Obviously many faces were already known to me, but it was the first time that I entered the garage as their driver, and it is always a bit special. Every time I get inside the car I always try to find the limit, and I try to do it as quickly as possible. But the purpose of the testing was the comparison of the compounds and I think we did a good job, so we’re happy.” – Charles Leclerc concluded.
