Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc lost out on a podium finish and most likely on the race win in the 2022 British Grand Prix after the Maranello team left him on track to finish the race with old hard tyres while everybody behind him pitted for new tyres. At the end of the Silverstone race, Charles was obviously disappointed but still wanted to focus on his teammate’s win, his first in Formula 1:
“I was asked to stay on track. I am very disappointed, but I don’t want the focus to be towards my disappointing race, but towards Carlos’ first win. It’s great for the team, it’s great for Carlos. Very happy for him, but very disappointed for myself, and I hope we come back stronger.” – Charles said after the British Grand Prix
It was entertaining at the end wasn’t it?
Charles Leclerc: “Yeah…but for me I was on old hards and everyone else was on softs. It was very difficult for me, but I gave it my absolute everything.”
What did Mattia say to you at the end?”
Charles Leclerc: “He tried to cheer me up… From my view, it seemed like we lost too much time. Obviously I don’t have the full picture from the car, so I need to review it with the team. Maybe when I see the whole picture, I will understand. I’m disappointed, but I’m nobody to ask Ferrari for clarification. I wouldn’t want the focus to shift to my disappointment rather than Carlos’ first win.”
