Charles Leclerc in trouble for allegedly impeding Norris in Q3
Charles Leclerc finished the Qualifying session of the Monaco Grand Prix in third position, 22 milliseconds behind Fernando Alonso in second place and 106 milliseconds behind Max Verstappen, who secured a sensational pole position despite touching several walls on his final attempt, snatching the top spot from the Aston Martin’s Spanish driver.
However, Charles Leclerc risks slipping to sixth position, allowing Esteban Ocon – impressive with the Alpine – Carlos Sainz, and Lewis Hamilton to move up. The Ferrari driver clearly impeded Lando Norris in Q3 under the tunnel. Lando Norris entered the iconic tunnel and found Charles Leclerc on his trajectory, forcing him to slow down at a point where usually drivers who are not pushing move to the right.
The three-place penalty for Charles Leclerc seems quite likely considering the precedents. We will see in the coming hours what the Stewards decide. Lando Norris made it to Q2 despite a contact with the barriers at the Port Chicane, a collision that caused significant damage. However, the McLaren mechanics did an exceptional job with the repairs, allowing the English driver to participate in Q3. Norris finished in tenth and last position, unable to rely on a final lap due to Leclerc’s impeding.
