Formula 1. Red Bull Ring. A week later we are still here. The beautiful circuit set in the Styrian countryside will once again be the setting for the weekend, where the 20 single-seaters that make up the Formula 1 world championship will compete in round 9 of the 2021 season. The championship is already in the middle phase, but some teams continue to test various updates.
During the free practice of the Styrian Formula 1 Grand Prix, on Friday morning in the first session, the technicians of Scuderia Ferrari used on Charles Leclerc’s SF21 car a new version of the floor. By introducing a new series of vortex generators, the attempt is to increase the outwash effect produced by the car.
The main purpose of this solution is to remove the deleterious turbulence directed towards the rear, to avoid gdirecting it under the floor and go to reduce the vertical thrust generated by the macro component. From what we have seen during the usual tests of the international federation still in progress, Ferrari will test the specification again with the three vortex generators. And the Italian side will do it again on Charles Leclerc’s SF21 car. It remains to be seen if and when this solution will be definitively implemented Ferrari. According to what has been learned, it could make its debut during the British Formula 1 Grand Prix in two weeksat Silverstone, where the load generated will have a greater impact on performance.
