Whatever the result of Charles Leclerc today, the fate of the Monegasque driver would already sealed: Charles has to start the 2021 Russian Grand Prix at Sochi Autodrom from the back of the grid. Having done a few laps in Q1 allowed #16 to start from 19th position, ahead of Max Verstappen, but little changes ahead of Sunday’s race. Those laps helped the Ferrari driver to become familiar with the track in a wet version, even if the weather should be clear for tomorrow. Here are the comments of Charles Leclerc after the qualifying session for the Russian Grand Prix.
“I wanted to drive a bit, it was nice. I also wanted to come out on track to be able to do a few laps in these conditions. I must say it went very well. Obviously nothing changes because we will start last tomorrow. It won’t be an easy race, honestly. It will be difficult to start from 19th place – I think – on a track where in the end it is not very easy to overtake. But we will give everything as always” – the Monegasque driver said, in an interview for Sky Sport F1 at the end of the the qualifying session in Sochi.

“We hope to make a good comeback. The setup is of course for dry weather, not rain, because it should not rain tomorrow. We have prepared everything for the race. The goal for tomorrow? I do not know. I’d like to get into the top 5, but that’s definitely not realistic. Let’s say the goal will be to make the best possible race. The pace has been good so far, this gives me hope. Too bad that here it is very difficult to overtake. I’ll do everything and we’ll see.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
