Among the innovations that have characterized the recent history of Formula 1 is the introduction of Sprint Races. A format that has not received unanimous praise from fans, professionals, and even the drivers themselves. Among the drivers, some have taken a stand against it, such as Max Verstappen, while others, like Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc, have embraced the novelty introduced by the sport governance, which wanted to create a format that could become more interesting for fans and the media, also in view of a revenue increase.
The Ferrari driver, discussing the Sprint format, in which he has almost always performed well this season, highlighted the enjoyment of the format and, at the same time, is open to possible changes aimed at improving this particular race weekend.
“I quite like it,” stated Charles Leclerc, as quoted by racingNews365. “I like the fact that we only have one free practice session. I don’t think we should have more than six Sprint weekends in a year. I think six is a good number. But having one free practice session and going straight to qualifying is something I like.” Charles Leclerc then, completing his remarks on the Sprint format, added: “I think Saturday could be modified and improved, but I really like Friday. Not having three free practice sessions is really long and sometimes it can become a bit boring. We always follow the same program. So I like the fact that we only have one free practice session and go straight into action with qualifying.” – the Ferrari man concluded.
