The Monegasque doesn’t give up
85 points. That’s Charles Leclerc’s gap from current championship leader Oscar Piastri, who has won four of the seven races held so far. The Australian driver holds a 13-point lead over Lando Norris and a 22-point advantage over Max Verstappen, who claimed victory in Suzuka and Imola (Norris won the season opener in Melbourne, Australia).
Despite logic suggesting otherwise, Charles Leclerc told Monaco Matin that, as always, he won’t stop believing in the world title until the mathematics confirm that the fight is over for 2025 as well: “For me, it’s impossible to call it a good season if we finish third or fourth,” Charles Leclerc said. “To be honest, I still believe. And I will believe until the end. Last year Red Bull started like a rocket, but then McLaren came back really strong. And so did we. From Barcelona onwards, when the new regulations on flexible front wings come into force, I hope we’ll make progress.”
Ferrari is working on a new rear suspension to fix issues with the SF-25, whose upgrades have been put on hold until that structural problem is resolved. Charles Leclerc noted that there’s no clear timeline for when this new component will be introduced. For Charles Leclerc to keep his title hopes alive, he’ll need the internal battle between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris to continue. The Ferrari driver believes that their duel won’t be settled until Abu Dhabi, and it will be up to him, Max Verstappen, and perhaps even Russell to stay in the fight until Yas Marina: “Piastri deserves to lead the championship—he’s mastered tyre management perfectly—but be careful, even if Norris seems a little less comfortable with the car right now, he’s still incredibly fast. The gap between them is only 13 points. It’s a tight race and will remain so until the final GP, no doubt.” – he concluded ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
