Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc has also spoken out about the much-discussed Netflix series Drive To Survive, which has always divided the opinions of fans and professionals alike.
Since its first release in 2019, Drive To Survive has always divided public opinion, forming two well-defined camps. Some argue that initiatives like portraying Formula 1 through a TV series greatly increase the sport’s popularity, reaching broader audiences, while others believe that the series solely aims to generate profits at the expense of the truthfulness of the stories told.
Even Charles Leclerc, speaking in an interview with F1briefings, wanted to give his take on the much-discussed Netflix product: “I think it has only done good for F1.”
“If you look at where it was before Drive to Survive and where it is now, I think it’s a huge step forward. And then, of course, sometimes the perspective in the paddock is different from that of someone living in the moment.” – he pointed out.
Nevertheless, the Monegasque driver is aware that the screenwriters’ goal is not to target those who are already fully immersed in this world for years, but rather everyone who is unfamiliar with Formula 1 and is approaching the sport for the first time.
“I think it has helped to engage people who were not necessarily passionate about Formula 1 to understand it from a different perspective, focusing more on the people surrounding the drivers and showing a bit more of the personalities in the paddock, which I think is a fantastic thing.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
