The language used by drivers has been one of the main topics of recent months. Following Max Verstappen’s community service penalty, Charles Leclerc was fined by the FIA for making remarks deemed inappropriate during a press conference.
While the incident initially caused laughter from the Ferrari driver, the situation has led drivers to request clarification from the federation, as they believe the penalties are excessive. According to them, focus should be placed on far more important issues, as explained in a post shared on social media by the newly established Grand Prix Drivers Association.
Charles Leclerc calls for transparency from the federation
In an interview with the Italian daily newspaper *La Repubblica*, Charles Leclerc addressed the fine he received. “I think we’re reasonable enough to understand when we’re crossing the line. On track, it’s necessary to have someone monitoring our behavior, but being fined for words that, by the way, weren’t directed at anyone, is absurd,” said the Monegasque driver.
“There’s a limit to everything. As drivers, we’re not asking for much, just a bit of common sense,” Charles Leclerc added. “Additionally, there needs to be more transparency. For instance, where does the money collected from fines go? To date, we haven’t had any answers.” – the Ferrari man concluded.
It remains to be seen whether the federation will choose to provide clarity on the matter.
