In the Austin weekend, Charles Leclerc’s choice of helmet design raised some eyebrows. It was, in fact, his hundredth weekend with Ferrari, and the fans expected a graphical reference to this milestone.
Instead, the number 16 opted for a green helmet with an American football field, accompanied by the inscription “Touchdown in Austin.” In response to some questions on this theme, Charles Leclerc managed to find a connection with the hundredth weekend in red. “I often sing a song by Gianni Morandi about a great green field where hopes are born. That’s why I chose a green helmet,” the Monegasque driver had stated.
A week later, the historic Italian singer, Gianni Morandi, responded. Posting a video on social media where Leclerc can be seen singing, he wished the Monegasque driver good luck ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix.
“Charles, you’re going strong. I hope this song brings you luck,” was the description of the post.
It remains to be seen whether the words of the Italian singer will bring luck to Charles Leclerc and Ferrari. The number 16 will start from pole position, his twenty-second pole in his career, in Mexico City, where he will be seeking his first win of the season. However, traditionally, those who start in first place on the Mexican circuit struggle to maintain their lead after the first corner.
