Charles Leclerc has recalled one of the moments that best captures the relationship between Ferrari and its supporters at Monza: being woken around midnight by fans singing for the Scuderia before going on to win the Italian Grand Prix the following day.
The Monegasque shared the memory in a recent social media video published by Ferrari in collaboration with Chivas Regal. With the 2026 Italian Grand Prix at Monza approaching on 4–6 September, Leclerc’s story offers another reminder of why Ferrari’s home race carries a very different atmosphere from most weekends on the Formula 1 calendar.
Charles Leclerc remembers Ferrari fans singing near Monza
The episode happened on the Saturday night before the race. Charles Leclerc was staying in a hotel close to the circuit when, at approximately midnight, a group of Ferrari supporters began singing chants dedicated to the team.
Leclerc explained that the noise woke him, but the interruption became a particularly special memory because of what followed the next afternoon. He went on to win the race, turning the late-night soundtrack from Ferrari’s supporters into part of the story surrounding one of his Monza victories.
For the driver of car number 16, that experience encapsulated the intensity of Ferrari support during the Italian Grand Prix weekend. The chants continued outside the circuit long after the day’s track action had finished, underlining the emotional connection between the tifosi, the team and its drivers.
Leclerc has twice delivered victory for Ferrari at Monza
Charles Leclerc has stood on the top step of the Monza podium twice with Ferrari. His first success came in 2019, during his first season racing for the Maranello team, when he delivered a home victory for the Scuderia.
He then won again two seasons ago, adding another Monza triumph to his Ferrari record. That second victory provided the backdrop to the fan story he has now recalled, with the supporters who woke him on Saturday night ultimately celebrating a Ferrari win the following day.
Monza’s significance goes far beyond the championship points available on Sunday. The circuit is Ferrari’s home event in Formula 1, and the concentration of tifosi around the track creates an atmosphere that regularly makes the Italian Grand Prix one of the most emotionally charged weekends of the year for the team.
Ferrari prepares for another important 2026 Monza weekend
The 2026 edition will take place from Friday 4 September to Sunday 6 September and will form the 13th round of the Formula 1 World Championship. The weekend also carries sporting importance for the Maranello team, with Ferrari working towards a planned power unit upgrade for Monza.
Before Formula 1 reaches Italy, however, racing resumes after the summer break at Zandvoort. The Dutch Grand Prix will stage the fifth Sprint event of the season, making it an immediately demanding return to action before teams travel south for Ferrari’s home race. The full 2026 Dutch Grand Prix schedule sets out the session timings for the first weekend back.
For Leclerc, Monza will once again combine the competitive demands of a Grand Prix with an atmosphere he has already experienced at its most memorable. His midnight encounter with Ferrari’s supporters remains a simple example of how the tifosi can become part of the race weekend itself — and, on that occasion, part of a winning one.
