Charles Leclerc reveals letter of gratitude from Sebastian Vettel ahead of Formula 1 debut in 2018. Charles recalls memorable letter once received from Seb.

Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc revealed that he once got a letter of gratitude from Sebastian Vettel, prior to making his Formula 1 debut back in 2018, which made his day.

Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel were teammates at Scuderia Ferrari in the 2019 and 2020 Formula 1 seasons and despite the fact that they suffered a few flash points especially in the first year, Seb and Charles enjoyed overall a friendly and constructive working partnership in Maranello.

During the last few months of the 2022 Formula 1 campaign, which was Sebastian Vettel’s final year in Formula 1, Charles Leclerc has often paid tribute to his former Ferrari teammate, pointing out the great knowledge he acquired from their time together and admitted to being impressed by the German’s work ethic.

“We became team-mates in 2019 and 2020 also, where he has taught me really a lot,” – Charles Leclerc confirmed – “We’ve had our tense moments on track, but the respect off the track has never changed and he’s always been there for me whenever I had difficult times. And that was very different to what I was used to with my previous team-mates. Obviously, in Formula 1 it’s normal, there’s inner competition inside the team but he has always been super caring and trying to help me whenever I was going through more difficult times.” – the Monegasque driver continued.

At the same time, Charles Leclerc also recalled a moment from five years ago, when he was competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, a series he won alongside Prema, before being given the chance to race in Formula 1 for Sauber. During 2017, given the fact that he was part of the Ferrari Driver Academy, the talented young driver was very often entrusted with Formula 1 development task in the Italian side’s simulator in Maranello.

And Charles Leclerc’s great efforts did not go unnoticed by the German driver, who at that time was fighting for the world title with Ferrari: “He’s been incredible,” said Charles Leclerc a few weeks ago, as Sebastian Vettel was saying goodbye on his final race weekend in Abu Dhabi – “I remember, already in Formula 2, I was doing the simulator work, which, okay, it’s not easy work to do. It’s really, really tiring, and I thought that Seb probably didn’t even know I was on the simulator. And I received a letter one day, just thanking me for all the hard work. And that meant a lot for me at that time. He will definitely be missed. I’m sure that he will enjoy his time off the racetrack, and that he will find other things that makes him happy.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
