Charles Leclerc has announced what his next objective will be in racing outside of Formula 1, clearly outlining his intentions and ambitions for the future. Once again, the Monegasque driver must wait to truly fight for the world championship he arguably deserves, as the 2025 season proved to be deeply disappointing due to an SF-25 that was simply not at the level of the strongest cars on the grid.
The 2025 campaign failed to meet expectations for Ferrari, and this situation has inevitably influenced Charles Leclerc’s outlook. The Ferrari driver has effectively issued a kind of ultimatum to the team in recent months, while also speaking openly about a personal goal that goes beyond the world of Formula 1 and traditional Grand Prix racing.
Despite the frustrations, Charles Leclerc delivered one of the best seasons of his career in 2025. Ferrari once again fell short of matching his performances, with the Monegasque driver carrying the Scuderia almost single-handedly by securing an impressive seven podium finishes. The driver of car number 16 demonstrated clear leadership throughout the year, reinforcing his status as the team’s reference point.
However, the coming season will be crucial. Avoiding mistakes will be fundamental, as another year without competitive machinery could push the Ferrari driver, who has been wearing red since 2019, to seriously consider his future and potentially bring his long chapter with Maranello to an end.
Charles Leclerc sets his sights on Le Mans
During the end-of-season awards ceremony organised by Formula 1 in Uzbekistan, Charles Leclerc was present and watched his rivals collect trophies that many believe he also deserves. Over the course of the celebrations, the Monegasque driver took the opportunity to speak openly to the media, revealing a long-held ambition to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and he did so with a very clear objective in mind.
“I have to find a way to combine Formula 1 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Yes, but I want to win. All of this means preparation. In the WEC the level is really very high,” Charles Leclerc said.
Charles Leclerc has expressed this desire for quite some time, but the demanding Formula 1 calendar has never allowed the number 16 to take part in what is widely regarded as the most iconic endurance race in the world. As the Ferrari driver himself underlined, competing at Le Mans would require thorough and specific preparation due to the extremely high level of competition in the World Endurance Championship.
A dedicated programme would therefore need to be created if Charles Leclerc is to realistically take part in the legendary race. The 2026 season has already been ruled out as a possibility, as Charles Leclerc will be committed to the Spanish Grand Prix on the same weekend as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. As a result, any real opportunity to fulfil this ambition would have to wait at least until the following year, when a small window of hope could finally open.
