Charles Leclerc reportedly conceals his genuine views on Ferrari during press appearances. Charles Leclerc’s frustration with Ferrari grows during the 2025 F1 season as internal tensions rise.

Charles Leclerc’s 2025 Formula 1 season with Ferrari has turned into one of the most challenging campaigns of his career. Despite flashes of brilliance behind the wheel, the Monegasque driver finds himself caught between internal criticism from Ferrari’s leadership and the mounting frustrations of a car that has failed to deliver.

So far, Charles Leclerc has been the team’s main source of success, securing all seven of Ferrari’s podium finishes this season. His performances have often gone beyond what the SF-25 seemed capable of achieving. However, the car’s inconsistent handling, recurring ride height issues, and a string of unsuccessful upgrades have left both the Monegasque and his Maranello teammate Lewis Hamilton struggling to extract performance. With just three races remaining in the 2025 championship, Ferrari remains winless and low on morale following a double DNF at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s internal tension surfaces after John Elkann’s public criticism

The situation escalated after Ferrari chairman John Elkann publicly criticised both drivers, urging them to concentrate on their racing rather than voicing their concerns. According to Elkann, the engineers were doing their part, while the drivers had failed to meet expectations. The comments reportedly created further tension within the Maranello camp, casting doubt over Ferrari’s internal harmony.

In response, both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton took to social media to reassure fans that they remained fully committed to delivering their best performances for the team in the final rounds of the season. Yet, behind those words, there appears to be a clear sense of unease, especially for Charles Leclerc, whose patience seems to be wearing thin after another disappointing year with Ferrari.

Leclerc’s frustration in 2025: choosing words carefully in the media pen

Charles Leclerc has been noticeably more measured in his media appearances this season. Earlier in the year, he remarked that Ferrari was effectively the fourth-fastest team in Formula 1—a statement that has proven accurate, as the Scuderia now sits fourth in the Constructors’ Championship after their disastrous weekend in São Paulo. The Brazilian Grand Prix highlighted Ferrari’s ongoing mechanical woes, with Leclerc suffering from a downshift issue that further compromised his performance.

According to F1 journalist Tim Hauraney, who analysed Charles Leclerc’s demeanour on Nailing The Apex, the driver appears to be deliberately holding back his true thoughts about Ferrari. Tim Hauraney observed that Charles Leclerc has become increasingly vocal this season but often seems on the verge of saying more than he ultimately does. He suggested that the Monegasque driver is exercising restraint, likely out of respect for the team’s image, but that the strain is becoming harder to hide.

In Formula 1, driving for Ferrari carries immense prestige—but also heavy responsibility. Drivers are expected to remain composed even when the team falters. Yet, as Tim Hauraney pointed out, it’s natural for a world-class competitor like the 28-year-old to feel frustrated when constant mechanical issues and strategic errors prevent him from fighting at the front. Repeated disappointments can test even the most loyal driver’s patience, and Charles Leclerc’s recent tone suggests he is nearing that breaking point.

Speculation grows over Leclerc’s future at Ferrari

John Elkann’s criticism of Charles Leclerc, coupled with the driver’s growing dissatisfaction, has inevitably reignited rumours about a potential split between Ferrari and their star driver. Although Leclerc is contractually bound to the Scuderia until 2029, sources around the paddock suggest that he may already be evaluating his options beyond 2026 if Ferrari’s fortunes do not improve.

The Ferrari man has been linked to several rival teams, with Mercedes and Aston Martin emerging as the most likely destinations. In particular, Aston Martin has been the subject of increased speculation, as Fernando Alonso is expected to retire after the 2026 season. A potential partnership between Charles Leclerc and technical mastermind Adrian Newey at Aston Martin could be an enticing prospect for the Monegasque, who has long expressed his desire to compete in a truly championship-winning car.

Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher recently suggested that John Elkann’s harsh comments may have been triggered by ongoing rumours connecting Charles Leclerc with Aston Martin. Ralf Schumacher believes that if Ferrari genuinely wants to retain their lead driver, Elkann and team principal Frédéric Vasseur must listen more closely to their drivers’ feedback and deliver a car capable of fighting for victories, rather than continuing to rely on loyalty alone.

Ferrari’s crossroads: fixing the SF-25 or losing their star

As the 2025 season draws to a close, Ferrari finds itself at a pivotal moment. The SF-25’s poor development path, the public criticism from leadership, and the evident frustration from both drivers have exposed cracks within the team’s structure. For Charles Leclerc, who once dreamed of bringing Ferrari back to championship glory, the question now is whether that dream can still be achieved in Maranello—or if his ambitions will eventually drive him elsewhere.

Unless Ferrari can make significant progress with its 2026 project and rebuild trust with its drivers, the Scuderia risks losing one of its most talented and committed competitors. For now, Charles Leclerc continues to wear the iconic red, but his silence in the media may be saying far more than his words ever could.
