During the press conference reserved for Formula 1 drivers on Thursday ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz stressed that the Marina Bay Street Circuit is the right opportunity for the Maranello team to attempt to get back in front of everyone, especially for qualifying.
The positive feeling was then also shared by his teammate Charles Leclerc, who instead was a bit more cautious, while still pointing out that the characteristics of the Singapore track should be more favorable for the F1-75 challenger as compared to the last few races:
“I don’t know yet if this track will bring us any advantages” – the Monegasque said, in his interview on Thursday – “But circuits like this should favor our car, even if Red Bull still has an advantage in terms of race pace, so it will be difficult to challenge them, but we will see. Our main focus will be on the race, also because in qualifying we are quite strong, and we were strong even after the summer break, but in the race they are more competitive, so we’ll see what we can do this weekend” – the Ferrari driver added.
Moreover, Charles Leclerc will compete in the last races of this season not only with the personal goal of delaying as much as possible the world championship victory of Max Verstappen, now on his way to an easy second consecutive Formula 1 world title, but also to be able to further improve his feeling with the team in view of 2023.
Lately there has been a lot of talk about the dialogue in the race between the Monegasque driver and the pit wall to decide the best strategy, an aspect on which the Maranello team (due to wrong decisions) and Charles himself (for not being more adamant when making decisions that may be different than the ones indicated by his team) had been criticized up to the race in Hungary:
“We are still carrying out discussions with the team in order to reach the best possible level” – he added – “I don’t want to dwell on the topics we are talking about during the race, but I want to focus on these final six races and on the way in which we will manage these Sundays. It is super important to keep going, we have improved a lot from last year to this year in terms of performance, but another step must be taken to be able to win the world championship and we will concentrate on these last races to be able to lay the foundations for 2023”.

In conclusion, Charles Leclerc then commented on the news that the Monaco GP will remain on the Formula 1 season for next season: “I was very happy to have seen Monaco on the official calendar of 2023. This is obviously my home race and a very special event for Formula 1 and for the Principality itself, and therefore I am very satisfied with this confirmation”.
