Charles Leclerc has once again underlined his emotional connection to Scuderia Ferrari, stating that the Italian Formula 1 team still feels like “family” to him, despite the continued wait for championship success since his arrival in Maranello.
The Monegasque driver, Charles Leclerc, has been a central figure in Ferrari’s modern era since joining the team in 2019. Although he has secured eight Formula 1 Grand Prix victories in red, Charles Leclerc is still searching for the ultimate goal of returning Ferrari to consistent championship-winning form in both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ standings.
Ferrari’s last Constructors’ Championship dates back to 2008, while the team’s most recent Drivers’ title came in 2007 with Kimi Räikkönen. Since then, Scuderia Ferrari has remained one of the most iconic teams in Formula 1 but has struggled to convert potential into sustained title success.
Charles Leclerc’s journey to Ferrari began long before his Formula 1 debut, having been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy for nearly a decade. He progressed through the junior categories with standout performances, winning both the GP3 Series and Formula 2 championship titles before making his Formula 1 debut in 2018 with Alfa Romeo Sauber.
This long-standing association with Ferrari has strengthened the emotional bond between the Monegasque and the Maranello-based team, but it has also increased expectations, with constant pressure to deliver results that match the scale of the Ferrari legacy in Formula 1.
Contract speculation and Ferrari’s long-term project with Charles Leclerc
Despite being under contract reportedly until 2029, the 28-year-old has occasionally been the subject of speculation regarding his long-term future in Formula 1, particularly if Ferrari fail to consistently challenge for world championships in the coming seasons.
However, within the current 2026 Formula 1 campaign, Ferrari appear to have taken a step forward with the SF-26 package, positioning themselves as one of the strongest teams behind the early frontrunners. This improvement has provided renewed optimism for both Charles Leclerc and the wider Ferrari organisation.
While the gap to the very top remains a target for development, internal progress has given Ferrari belief that they are moving in the right direction, particularly as Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc continue to refine their understanding of the car and extract more consistent performance across different circuits.
Charles Leclerc reflects on progress, patience and long-term ambition
Speaking about Ferrari’s current trajectory, Charles Leclerc acknowledged that the team has made a positive step forward but admitted that they are still not operating at the level required to fight consistently for world championships in Formula 1.
Charles Leclerc explained that both he and the team remain committed to continuous development, emphasising that progress is being made even if the ultimate goals have not yet been achieved.
He also reflected on the passage of time since his early days in Formula 1, noting that his journey from junior categories to Ferrari’s lead driver role has been long and demanding, but still driven by the same ambition that first brought him into the sport.
Charles Leclerc added that he remains fully focused on maximizing every opportunity, expressing hope that Ferrari’s current development direction will soon translate into stronger championship contention and more frequent race victories.
Ferrari’s 2026 ambitions with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton
With both the Monegasque and his Maranello teammate forming one of the most experienced driver pairings on the grid, Ferrari continue to build a project aimed at returning to the very top of Formula 1.
The combination of technical development, strategic upgrades, and driver experience is seen internally as a key factor in accelerating Ferrari’s return to consistent title contention, with Charles Leclerc remaining a central figure in that long-term vision.
As the 2026 Formula 1 season develops, Ferrari’s progress will be closely monitored, with both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton expected to play decisive roles in turning performance gains into championship results.
