One of the many topics from the United States Grand Prix weekend at the Circuit of the Americas was about penalties. After the five-second penalty given to George Russell, the duel between the two title contenders sparked further debate. Max Verstappen pushed the limits in his challenge with Lando Norris, with the Brit ultimately being penalized, losing the chance to gain points on the Dutchman.
This was one of the topics Charles Leclerc discussed in the Mexico GP press conference, where the Monegasque driver spoke about how challenging it is to compete with Max Verstappen. From karting days to Formula 1, the duels between Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have thrilled fans time and again with overtakes and counter-overtakes, often right on the edge of what’s allowed.
“Max always on the edge”
“Verstappen has always been right on the edge of the regulations,” said Charles Leclerc in the conference. “But in the end, that’s why I enjoy dueling with him so much. You know he’ll never give you any margin and will always be on the limit. This makes the battles super exciting.” – the Ferrari driver pointed out ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix weekend.
The Monegasque also mentioned the need to discuss with the FIA for more consistent judgments. “There were things seen in Austin that maybe should be clarified with the Federation,” said the Ferrari driver. “I think the penalties were severe in some cases. It’s necessary for the drivers and FIA to clarify what can and cannot be done.” – Charles Leclerc concluded.
