The 24 Hours of Le Mans has just concluded, and this year it saw the return of Ferrari to the grid after fifty years. The Ferrari 499P started from the front row yesterday with both Hypercar cars. The race was characterized by many accidents and numerous safety car periods due to the challenging weather conditions that put all the drivers in great difficulty during the first hours of the race.
During the night, the Ferrari car number 50 encountered a diffuser problem due to an off-track moment in the gravel, resulting in a long pit stop. This left the other Ferrari battling alone against Toyota and other manufacturers. In addition to the GT and LMP2 categories, this year’s edition also featured a NASCAR car adapted by the team to compete on the French circuit. Ferrari returned to the top step of the podium at Le Mans after a fifty-year wait in the category. The 499P, driven by Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, and Antonio Giovinazzi, finished first after 24 hours, ahead of the second-place Toyota and the third-place Cadillac. The second Ferrari car finished only fifth, behind the second car from the American manufacturer.
Scrolling through the classification, we find the LMP2 category, which was won by car number 34 of the Inter Europol Competition team, driven by Jakub Smiechowski, Fabio Scherer, and Albert Costa, ahead of car number 41 from Team WRT and car number 30 from Duqueine.
