After a somewhat disappointing qualifying session yesterday, Charles Leclerc commented on the F1 China GP Sprint Race, where he finished fourth. Initially, Ferrari seemed to be struggling slightly compared to their rivals, unlike in the recent races.
In the final stages of the Sprint Race, the two Ferrari cars showed they had good pace, probably indicating a race managed in terms of tires. Charles Leclerc, for his part, took advantage of the battle between Fernando Alonso, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz to close the gap before making a great pass on his Maranello teammate. Obviously, the race remains uncertain since the teams only had one hour of free practice.
Although in less sharp tones, the Monegasque driver expressed some criticism speaking with Sky Sport F1. Under scrutiny was Carlos Sainz’s defense of his position, which led Charles Leclerc off the track at turn 14. However, the Ferrari driver got his revenge on the following lap, pulling off a beautiful overtake in the stretch between turns 1 and 2, which ultimately secured him fourth place at the end of the Sprint.
Interviewed at the end of the Sprint race in Shanghai, Charles Leclerc did not specify what will happen after the contact with Carlos Sainz. “Today there was a battle, as has happened in the past. Sometimes I have been more aggressive; today it was Carlos,” Charles Leclerc stated. “We will definitely talk about it as we always have. It’s a pity because we were in different situations since he was struggling with his tires. This way, I lost a couple of seconds which allowed Sergio Perez to get away.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
Regarding the qualifying, Charles Leclerc emphasized the importance of staying ahead of Max Verstappen. “It will be crucial,” said the Monegasque. “In the Sprint qualifying, I worked hard and felt good.”
Therefore, there is nothing serious between the two Ferrari drivers who will try to put everything behind them and continue towards their common goal
