Taking into consideration the first two Grands Prix of the season, Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc today has clearer ideas about who he will be able to challenge in the next races of the 2021 Formula 1 championship. After losing the Canadian Grand Prix, replaced by a stage in Turkey, Formula 1 will face only short trips in the European context and at the continental borders: it is time for the teams to use the last and fundamental resources for 2021, exploiting a greater logistical availability before dedicating everything to next year. So the one in Portimao will be a Grand Prix where taking advantage of every opportunity will be important.
“In Portugal I think we will go as in Imola. It will be a very close challenge with AlphaTauri and McLaren” – Charles Leclerc told Italian newspaper La Stampa, but also thinking ahead, given that according to the first impressions both Aston Martin and Alpine seem to have some extra difficulties to manage.
The biggest challenge, considering the lesser experience of their respective teammates, could be that between the Monegasque and Lando Norris, McLaren-Mercedes standard bearer who started the season in a sparkling way: “We will compete for third place among the constructors. Carlos will also be there to give me a hand, because he is very fast. The future is ours” – Charles Leclerc said with optimism.
We will need the best Charles Leclerc to give Ferrari a place on the podium. With a better car than in 2020, there could be an opportunity to polish his character, defined as a bit ‘furious’ once in the cockpit: “It is a side of my character that I have tried to correct with great mental work. On the track after a mistake I get rid of it very quickly, if I know the cause. I have no difficulty admitting that I’m wrong. Even if, unfortunately, at home I am unable to adopt the self-control techniques I use on the track. When I play on the Playstation, for example, I have even less patience.” – Charles added.
