Charles Leclerc optimistic Ferrari can sustain challenge across 2026 Formula 1 season. Charles Leclerc backs Ferrari to fight for F1 title after early-season gains.

Charles Leclerc has expressed growing confidence in Ferrari’s ability to fight for the Formula 1 world championship in 2026, following a strong start to the season and clear technical progress under the current regulations. The Scuderia has emerged as one of the most improved teams on the grid, with both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton consistently delivering competitive performances in the opening races.

After the first three rounds of the season, Charles Leclerc sits third in the drivers’ standings with 49 points, chasing championship leader Kimi Antonelli and Mercedes contender George Russell. Ferrari has also taken a significant step forward in the constructors’ championship, moving up from fourth place in 2025 to second position, largely thanks to the combined efforts of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton in the three races that were held so far, in Australia, China, and Japan.

Ferrari development fuels optimism

Speaking in a recent podcast appearance, Charles Leclerc highlighted the clear progress Ferrari has made with its 2026 challenger. He explained that the car has improved considerably compared to previous seasons and that he feels increasingly comfortable behind the wheel. According to the Monegasque, the team has delivered a strong baseline package, while continuous updates from the engineers have further enhanced performance.

He suggested that the Italian side now has a genuinely competitive car, capable of challenging at the front under the right conditions. Charles Leclerc also emphasized that the overall driving experience has improved, noting that confidence in the car is a crucial factor in extracting maximum performance over a race weekend.

Performance potential now depends on execution

While acknowledging the car’s strengths, Charles Leclerc made it clear that the next step lies in execution. He indicated that the pace is already present within the package, but results will depend on consistency, decision-making, and minimizing errors across the season.

Charles Leclerc underlined that maximizing opportunities in each race will be essential, particularly in a tightly contested championship where small margins can determine outcomes. He pointed out that maintaining a high level of performance throughout qualifying and race conditions will be critical if Ferrari is to remain in the title fight.

Consistency key in long championship battle

The Monegasque driver also stressed the importance of consistency over the course of a long Formula 1 season. He explained that championships are rarely decided by outright speed alone, but rather by the ability to deliver strong results week after week while adapting to changing circumstances.

Charles Leclerc highlighted that strategy, race incidents, and varying track characteristics can all influence outcomes, making it vital to focus on controllable factors like individual performance and teamwork. By maintaining consistency, he believes Ferrari can stay within reach of the championship leaders until the decisive stages of the season.

Teamwork with Lewis Hamilton and engineers proves crucial

An important element of Ferrari’s progress has been the strong collaboration within the team. Charles Leclerc pointed to the effective working relationship with his race engineer as a key factor in improving performance and communication during race weekends.

In addition, the partnership between Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton has provided Ferrari with one of the most experienced and competitive driver line-ups on the grid. The combined feedback from both drivers has contributed to refining the SF-26, helping the team better understand its strengths and areas for development.

Charles Leclerc noted that while the car is already competitive, there remains room for further improvement in multiple areas. Continuous development will be essential if Ferrari is to keep pace with rivals Mercedes and McLaren over the course of the season.

Ferrari targeting full-scale title challenge

Looking ahead, the Monegasque driver remains optimistic about Ferrari’s chances of competing for both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. The 28-year-old indicated that if the team can maintain its current level of performance, continue developing the car, and execute race weekends effectively, a title challenge is a realistic objective.

According to Charles Leclerc, Ferrari now possesses the necessary tools to fight at the front, including a competitive car, a strong driver pairing with Lewis Hamilton, and a motivated engineering team. He believes that by working cohesively and maintaining focus, the Scuderia can aim for major success in the 2026 Formula 1 season.

With momentum building and confidence growing inside the team, Ferrari appears increasingly determined to return to championship-winning form, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton leading the charge.
