Nearly a decade into his Formula 1 career, Charles Leclerc insists that the emotions which fueled him at the start of his journey remain just as strong today.
Since arriving in Formula 1 in 2018, the Monegasque driver has established himself as one of the sport’s leading talents, becoming a central figure in Ferrari’s long-term ambitions. Over the years, he has experienced memorable victories, difficult setbacks and the constant pressure that comes with racing for the most famous team in motorsport.
Despite all that experience, Charles Leclerc says he does not feel any different when it comes to his love for racing and his determination to succeed.
When asked whether spending almost ten years in the Formula 1 paddock makes him feel like a veteran, the Ferrari driver gave a straightforward answer.
“No. The joy, the desire to win, the passion… they’re exactly the same as they were in my first year. The only thing that makes me feel at home here is the relationships I’ve built with the people. At Ferrari, they’ve seen me grow, and we’ve been through good times and bad times together.”
The 28-year-old’s comments offer an interesting glimpse into the mindset that has helped him remain one of Formula 1’s most respected drivers. While many competitors admit that years in the sport can change their perspective, the Ferrari star believes that his competitive spirit has remained untouched.
The biggest difference, according to Charles Leclerc, is the sense of familiarity he now feels within the paddock. After several seasons with Ferrari, he has developed strong relationships with the engineers, mechanics and team members who have supported him throughout his journey.
Those connections have become even more meaningful as Ferrari has worked through both successful and challenging periods. From race wins and podium celebrations to frustrating weekends and missed opportunities, the Scuderia and Charles Leclerc have shared every step of the process together.
As Ferrari continues its pursuit of Formula 1 championship success, Charles Leclerc remains one of the key figures leading that effort. And while the years may have passed quickly, the passion that first brought him to Formula 1 appears to be as strong as ever.
