The 78th edition of the Monaco GP will also mark the debut of the Charles Leclerc Grandstand. What does this mean to you?
Charles Leclerc: “I am very happy. It is the first time that I will have a grandstand in my name. It is also the first Grand Prix of the year where we will have a little bit of public. In Barcelona, there were very few. To be here in Monaco, at home, and to know that there will be fans, that makes me happy. It’s been over a year and a half. Even though I’m doing what I love and I’m very lucky to be able to travel in such a situation, it’ll be nice to have people supporting us again. It gives us hope that we will be back to normal life very soon.”
Which historic circuits, or not, would you like to see or see again in F1, like South Africa for example?
Charles Leclerc: “I would love to go to South Africa. It would be more to go to this country that I don’t know, rather than for the track that is unknown to me. For Miami, I am really happy. I really like the United States, there is a special atmosphere there. It’s really cool to go to Miami. As for the circuit that I would love to do in F1, the one in Macau, which I know from F3. I love city circuits and Macau is one of the best circuits I’ve done in my life. In F1, it would be something incredible.”
Can the balance of power change in Monaco, where the driver can be more important?
Charles Leclerc: “I think that was the case at one time, and it is still the case today, but unfortunately there are so many differences and the drivers are so well prepared for circuits like Monaco. The driver can make up two/three tenths, but when you talk about the gaps between Red Bull, Mercedes and the others, it is very difficult. Especially since it’s not as if there are two bad drivers in each of the teams! Lewis & Max are still in better cars. But you never know. In quali, everything is decided on one lap. I’ll give it my all and hope to get a good result. But let’s be realistic: if Mercedes and Red Bull don’t have any problems, it will be very difficult to challenge them.”
