First part of Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc’s interview for Italian language daily newspaper published in Milan ‘il Giornale’:
If Nicolas Todt would tell you that another team offers you twice as much as Ferrari, would you leave?
Charles Leclerc: “No, because Ferrari is special. Money is important but I believe in the project and I want to go all the way with the team I dreamed of since I was a child. There are no offers that hold: I feel very good at Ferrari and I want to reach my goal that I have set myself and I won‘t leave until I have reached it.”
So you put love above money?
Charles Leclerc: “I am in a lucky situation because I am able to say that I have enough money. But without doubt, love is the most important thing.”
Since you want to win the title with Ferrari, you must have a lot of patience…
Charles Leclerc: “I worked on that quite a lot. During my first year at Ferrari, I wanted everything at once. Now I realized it is more important to have patience and close the gap.”
What would you change about today’s F1 cars?
Charles Leclerc: “They are incredible cars that are exceptional to drive. I have tried cars of 10, 15 or even 50 years ago, and there is nothing that comes close to the sensations that today’s cars give, as they are so fast. What do I miss? Maybe the noise.”
The future of racing is tied with noise for you?
Charles Leclerc: “Honestly I don’t have the answer to that. The world is changing so we must keep with time. Surely in the future, there won‘t be the engines of today but something more sustainable.”
Did you ask for the SF90 or did Ferrari just give it to you as a surprise gift?
Charles Leclerc: “I asked for it, I really wanted it. It‘s the car (chassis) that I won at Monza (2019). Complete car, including the engine!”
