In a recent interview for French nationwide daily newspaper devoted to sport L’Équipe ahead of the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc was asked about his title fight with Max Verstappen, the lessons learned from the Imola incident and about the possibility of spending his whole Formula 1 career with Scuderia Ferrari.
Here is the first part of Charles Leclerc’s interview for L’Équipe:
The fight with Max Verstappen, is it good because it reminds you of your karting years? Or is it less prestigious than a fight against Lewis?
Charles: “All I want is to win the championship with Ferrari. Whether it’s against Max, Lewis or anyone else. What I want is to bring Ferrari back to the top! And to win.”
The title or winning in Monaco?
Charles: “I’m going to do everything I can to win and not leave anything on the table, but I’ve learned. Sometimes there are situations that require more caution.”
Is that what you learned from Imola?
Charles: “I always try to challenge myself. That’s also why I have my notebook. I write down everything I feel, everything I experience, everything I say to my engineers. I grow and improve thanks to these small details. I feel much calmer than before. Going back to Imola, it was a mistake that was not easy to take. I was much faster than the others, and I overdid it a bit. The thing to remember is not to overdo it. I learned from it.”
Could you spend your whole career at Scuderia Ferrari?
Charles: “Of course! Ferrari is always Ferrari. It’s the dream but we have to win. And I want to win too.”

Mattia Binotto compared you to Gilles Villeneuve. How does that make you feel?
Charles: “It makes me proud. Gilles gave 200% every time he got into the car and he had an unparalleled passion for Ferrari. I don’t know if you can feel it from the outside, but I think I have it too. For the Scuderia (Ferrari) as well as the racing.”
