Charles Leclerc on wearing the Ferrari Monza black suit for whole season: “Fans wouldn’t be happy”. Chalres Leclerc on wearing the Ferrari Monza black suit for whole F1 season.

A touch of black in the red celebration

In the sea of red at the Monza circuit, there was a black dot. Charles Leclerc’s second career victory in the Italian Grand Prix came with a particular ‘color’ detail: the Monegasque – like his Maranello teammate Carlos Sainz – wore an entirely black suit, a tribute to the carbon fiber that is a crucial element in Formula 1 and motorsport.

It’s not the first time in recent years that Ferrari has chosen to dress the drivers in special colors for the home weekend, and it’s also not new for this season to break away from the traditional red, just think of the blue suits used in Miami.

No superstition

This time, however, the new colors brought particularly good luck, so in the press conference, journalists couldn’t resist asking Charles Leclerc about this stylistic detail. The Monegasque, however, denied any superstition, remaining faithful to the color that has always been distinctive in the world of Ferrari.

“I’m not superstitious and never will be – said Charles Leclerc – I think as an athlete, it’s the last thing you want to be because I’ve always thought it would affect me mentally. Plus, of course, I don’t choose the color of the suit. If I started asking for a black suit for the rest of the season, I don’t think the fans would be very happy – the Ferrari driver joked – we won in Monaco, and we were in red. We won here, and we were in black. I don’t think we have any intention of using anything but red for the rest of the season, and we hope it’s a successful red, just like in Monaco.” – Charles Leclerc concluded ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit.
