Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc shared his thoughts on the Max Verstappen – Lando Norris crash at the Red Bull Ring and also opens up on the Oliver Bearman – Haas announcement
“I have little to say about the stewards’ decision, I don’t have access to their data. For me, it was an incident that both could have avoided. I also squeezed Max Verstappen onto the curb in 2022.” This is how Charles Leclerc commented on the incident in Austria between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, which led to Norris’ retirement and a – ultimately irrelevant – ten-second penalty for Max Verstappen.
“I know Max’s driving style and how he battles very well because I started racing against him in 2010. I think he’s the driver I know the most and know best,” Charles Leclerc continued, ahead of the British Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend at the Silverstone circuit – “But I don’t adapt my style in duels based on the drivers I find myself fighting against. Certainly, it’s normal and useful to increasingly understand how different drivers behave in various situations. If I’m sixth in the championship, 100 points behind the leader, I don’t fight as hard, but if there’s a win at stake, I give 100% no matter who my opponent is.”
The Ferrari driver also commented on the recent announcement regarding Oliver Bearman’s move to F1 with Haas in 2025: “I have no doubt that Oliver Bearman has talent and is fast; he demonstrated it in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He shouldn’t put too much pressure on himself and should enjoy his debut when the time comes.” – the Monegasque driver concluded.
