Charles Leclerc was able to take sixth place in the Monza Sprint Qualifying race which took place earlier today, a placement that, as a result of the penalty received by Valtteri Bottas for an engine change, will allow the Monegasque to start tomorrow from the third row in the Italian Grand Prix with his teammate Carlos Sainz by his side which will therefore make up an entirely Ferrari third row.
Charles Leclerc had to deal with some physical problems, but faced the difficult circumstances by disputing a very solid Sprint Qualifying that brings him closer to the Mclaren in view of the race, even if Daniel Ricciardo will be able to join former teammate Max Verstappen on the first row for the race start: “I’m not feeling very well, but the most important thing is to do the work on the track. Today we did it and so I’m happy about that. And that’s it. The most important thing is that I’ve managed to do what I wanted to do in the car, so for that I’m happy. I just feel dizzy and have a headache. It’s not crazy symptoms. Honestly P5 and P6 were the best we could do for tomorrow. The four cars infront are way quicker but I’m still hopeful that if we can do a perfect race tomorrow, we will be able to put some pressure on the McLaren drivers. That is the objective. We will see.”, the words of the stoic Monegasque at the microphones of Sky Sport F1.
According to Charles Leclerc, he knew that challenging the McLarens at Monza is a difficult goal to achieve today: “It was a race where we maximized our potential. Unfortunately McLaren has more pace this weekend. Our duty is to try to maximize the weekend and try to get as many points as possible. Tire management will be very important for tomorrow’s race. In this race we pushed in the first two laps and the one on tire degradation goes a long way. So it is a first feedback for tomorrow’s race. It gives us some more data to maximize the setup, which is only that of the front wing. But we will focus on this tonight. Tomorrow we can get more points than expected by taking advantage of the fact that Perez, Gasly and Bottas start behind us. Everything is possible”. – Charles Leclerc explained.
