No pressure in the F1 Drivers’ Championship for Charles Leclerc: the Monegasque driver doesn’t want to discuss it, focusing on the track race by race. The third place in the Mexican Grand Prix brings him closer to Max Verstappen – the gap is now 71 points – but with four races left, it remains a mountain that may be too high to climb. A different story, however, for the Constructors’ title.
The Mexican Grand Prix did not disappoint expectations. After the Austin race, another thrilling battle between Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull was anticipated, and that’s exactly what happened. In the end, the Maranello team emerged victorious once again, with an in-form Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc limiting the damage (and almost achieving a one-two) in an otherwise unimpressive weekend.
Dreaming big is no longer a secret for Ferrari. The Constructors’ title is well within reach for the Ferrari duo: with Sergio Perez struggling more and Oscar Piastri off the radar for a few races, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are increasingly establishing themselves as the strongest pair on the grid. In the other ranking, the Drivers’ standings, the race is more complicated.
Charles Leclerc: “Drivers’ Championship? Don’t talk to me about it!”
“I welcome the fact that Max [Verstappen] is as aggressive as possible toward Lando [Norris] because it helps me, at least giving me the chance to be closer in the Drivers’ Championship,” explained Charles Leclerc in the press conference. “If nothing else, it’s more of a fight between me and Lando than with Max, who has a big points advantage.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
“As for me, realistically, I’m not thinking about the Drivers’ Championship. As I mentioned before, I think the best approach is not to focus on the Drivers’ Championship. It doesn’t help me achieve anything more. It’s better to concentrate on each race. Also, I feel that it’s not entirely up to me…”
“Let me explain: of course, it’s partially within my control. If I win every race, most of the chances are on my side. But even if I manage to do that, Max would have to have some bad weekends, and I’m not relying on that. So, I’ll try to have the best end of the season possible, and then we’ll see where we stand at the end of the championship.” – the Ferrari driver concluded at the end of the Mexico City Grand Prix, which was held yesterday at the 4.304-kilometre Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City.
