Third row for the Monegasque
Lewis Hamilton was eliminated in Q1, while Charles Leclerc started from the third row with the fifth fastest time. The Abu Dhabi GP qualifying once again confirmed the clear superiority of the Monegasque over the seven-time world champion in what has been an extremely challenging season for Ferrari.
“It hurts not to race for the win, it really hurts, but I still have to remind myself that I race in F1 and I drive for Ferrari,” Charles Leclerc told Sky when asked about the dreamy glances at the trophy representing the world championship displayed during Thursday’s press conference. “Looking back at my performances this year, I can only be satisfied.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
“Getting through Q2 was very complicated. I was very happy with my lap in Q2, which also helped for Q3,” Charles Leclerc added in the mixed zone. “Fifth place is still disappointing. We knew it would be a difficult season because we shifted the development of the SF-25 early to focus on 2026. Before the first qualifying next year, I don’t want to say anything.” – the Ferrari driver concluded.
The message was clear: pride in extracting every tenth from a compromised car, but pain at being a spectator in the title fight for yet another year. All eyes – especially Charles Leclerc’s – are already on that first Saturday in 2026 when Ferrari’s all-new challenger finally hits the track.
