Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc was interviewed by Sky Italy. Here are some of the most important comments and impressions from Charles:
Maranello
“Maranello is now a place that I have known for a few years. I remember very well the first time I came here. The dream of being able to drive the red car one day. I could not imagine that it really happened. On the other hand I miss the real Formula 1 and I can’t wait to get back”
Lockdown
“During the lockdown, I had more time to think and I used it to understand where to improve. On the one hand the lockdown for me was pleasant because I have never been at home for so long and I have enjoyed spending time with my family to the fullest. I trained twice a day, more than I did in the past. But it is normal given the context in which we found ourselves. Then I spend a lot of time in the simulator. I spent my days like this. I was not afraid for myself but more for my mother. We respected all the government’s suggestions for the COVID-19 situation and as I said I was not afraid for myself but rather for my family”.
2020 F1 season and SF1000
“I can’t wait to be in Austria to drive the real car. I don’t think the car will be any different to the one we brought to Australia because we couldn’t work on the car during the lockdown. So it will be very similar. Our goal is to seize all the opportunities that we will have and get the best possible result. I can’t know the result and I can’t make predictions, but we are waiting for Austria to really see where we stand.”
Tight 2020 F1 schedule
“I like and am happy with the tight schedule. Of course, it will be difficult: we don’t know if we will go home among the GPs and it will be tiring. But I miss racing so much that I am fine with it. In a normal season I would not like two races on the same track, but in a season like this, where a solution must be found, I think it is the best. I am happy that we can reach a certain number of races in the championship to give this a greater meaning. The approach to this championship will be the same. There will be fewer opportunities to score points and consistency will be the key. I don’t want to look back and say that in the past I lost. We have to take them all and not miss one. I would love having two races in Italy. Mugello is one of my favorite tracks & I like Imola a lot. For us who drive for Ferrari, every time that we come to Italy, it is special.”
Carlos Sainz
“Carlos Sainz and I have a good relationship and we’ve been in touch. I remember well the day they told me I was going to move to Ferrari and I imagined it would be the same for him.”
Sebastian Vettel
“It was a great opportunity for me to race with Seb and I learned a lot from him. The way he works and his experience. I am proud and proud of that.”
