Charles Leclerc: Hola!
Do you speak Spanish?
Charles: “Poco. understand, entiendo, but I can’t speak very much.”
You tried some Mexican food? Taco
Charles: “Of course I did. Yesterday I went for very good tacos for lunch, and I loved it!”
Do you feel like a rockstar in Monaco?
Charles Leclerc: “I am pretty sure it’s a bit like Checo here in Mexico. People know my name, it’s a very small city, we all know each other, they follow me which makes me very happy whenever I go back home.”
What is your favourite city to drive?
Charles Leclerc: “I can only choose Monaco. Monaco is where I am born. It’s a very small city and it’s exactly on the same streets I took the bus to go to school. Now I am taking them at 300 km/h in a F1 car. It’s a quite a special feeling. At the moment we are having a bit of a tougher season, where the car is not exactly where we want it to be in terms of performance, but we are working very hard and I expect us to be fighting for better things already next year!”
What advice to you have for young people, who want to become a racing driver?
Charles Leclerc: “Just follow your dreams. I think that’s the most important when you enjoy something. And to never give up. Whenever you want to reach your goal, obviously you are going through times that are not always easy, it not always goes your way, but if in these difficult times, you keep working, keep being focused on your goal, then you will eventually make it.”
About being a Ferrari driver:
Charles Leclerc: “Being a Ferrari driver, I feel the support everywhere I go. I come to Mexico and there are a lot of Tifosi, a lot of Ferrari fans. And wherever we go in the world, we feel the support which is extremely important to me. Especially when I am going through tough times. The people that follow me and that really love me and show it in the difficult moments, make me happy and extra motivated.”
What is your next goal?
Charles Leclerc: “My next goal is to be a world champion. Driving for Ferrari, I cannot have any other goals. Ferrari needs to be winning! At the moment we are having a bit of a tougher season, where the car is not exactly where we want it to be in terms of performance, but we are working very hard and I expect us to be fighting for better things already next year!”
You have 5 mio followers on Instagram, do you feel like you have a responsibility?
Charles Leclerc: “Social media is great tool to help people and to help sending the right messages in the world. It is great to feel the support.”
What is speed for you?
Charles Leclerc: “It’s difficult to put into words but what we are going through while we drive, this is what I love about this sport. It gives me adrenaline, this is what I like. The competition also in between the drivers, to just try and extract absolutely the maximum out of the car is something I really enjoy doing.”
About making his dreams come true
Charles Leclerc: “Of course I am living the dream. I started karting when I was three and a half years old and living in Monaco, we had the GP every year and I could see it every year and I was always rooting for the red car. Always for Ferrari. It’s always been Ferrari for me. So my first dream was obviously to come to Formula 1, which I thought was not a realistic goal, but then once I knew I will be driving for Ferrari was just incredible.”
