After the Canadian Grand Prix, Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc spoke about the weakness that is limiting the SF-24 and that the Maranello technicians should work to mitigate.
Charles Leclerc has analyzed the Italian side’s season so far, focusing on the weaknesses of the SF-24 that the team in Maranello is already working on. The problem the Monegasque mentioned has indeed emerged in some of the races run so far and has pushed his team to overcome this “problem.”
Certainly, the season for Ferrari’s number 16 has been positive up to this point. Along with the victory on the streets of Monte Carlo in Monaco, until Canada, he had always finished in the top 4 in the race. The race in Montreal showed a rather poor Ferrari performance, but there seems to be no need for despair.
The Italian team remains in the fight for the constructors’ championship, trailing “only” 49 points behind Red Bull (last year, at this point in the season, the gap was around 200 points). Considering their ambition for this season, Charles Leclerc wants to address the car’s weakness in long and slow corners.
After analyzing the races so far, the Monegasque noticed that the SF-24 does not perform optimally in long and slow corners like those in Bahrain or China, races where Ferrari struggled slightly.
“This is still an area we need to work on with the car, so I would say it’s the main issue to address, but it’s not the only one. There are many small details that, if added together, can make a difference. With a new package that includes more aerodynamic downforce and a bit less aerodynamic drag, we can definitely improve,” Charles Leclerc said after the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.
“We are talking about tenths, sometimes even hundredths of a second. But if we improve these small details, we can really make a difference. We have identified the problem and we are already working on it.” – added Ferrari’s number 16 ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, the next round of the 2024 Formula 1 championship.
