Charles Leclerc hints at racing into his 40s after signing fresh Ferrari contract. Charles Leclerc outlines long-term Ferrari mission after contract extension.

Charles Leclerc, Ferrari 2026 F1

Charles Leclerc has shed more light on his long-term Formula 1 ambitions following the announcement of his new Ferrari contract, revealing that he currently has no plans to leave the sport anytime soon.

The Monegasque driver recently committed his future to Ferrari once again, strengthening a partnership that began in 2019 when he joined the Scuderia from Sauber. Since then, Charles Leclerc has established himself as one of the team’s most important drivers, earning the admiration of Ferrari supporters around the world thanks to his speed, loyalty and determination to bring championship success back to Maranello.

Although reports initially suggested that the new agreement would keep Charles Leclerc at Ferrari well into the next decade, questions remain about the exact length of the contract. Sky Sports F1 reporter Craig Slater recently suggested that the deal may be shorter than many had originally believed.

Regardless of the contract’s duration, Charles Leclerc appears fully committed to both Ferrari and Formula 1 for the foreseeable future.

Charles Leclerc sees himself racing well beyond his current contract

During a recent interview with Sky Sports Italia, Charles Leclerc was asked about how long he expects to continue competing in Formula 1. While he admitted that predicting the future is never easy, he revealed that he can currently imagine staying on the grid for many more years.

Charles Leclerc explained that his outlook on life has already changed considerably compared to several years ago and acknowledged that personal circumstances could alter his priorities again in the future. He pointed out that starting a family could eventually influence his decision-making, as family remains one of the most important aspects of his life.

Despite that, the Monegasque suggested that if he were making the decision today, he could see himself racing into his mid-forties or even beyond, provided he remains competitive and continues to earn his place on the grid.

The Ferrari driver indicated that he would happily continue competing until the age of 45 or 50 as long as nobody proved capable of replacing him. However, he was careful not to make any definitive promises, stressing that life circumstances can evolve quickly and that future family commitments may naturally influence his perspective.

Modern Formula 1 has already shown that age is becoming less of a limitation than it once was. Lewis Hamilton continues to perform at the highest level in his forties, while Fernando Alonso remains one of the most experienced and competitive drivers on the grid. Advances in physical preparation, nutrition and recovery have helped extend careers, making Charles Leclerc’s comments far less surprising than they might have seemed in previous generations.

Winning a world championship with Ferrari remains Charles Leclerc’s ultimate goal

Charles Leclerc also addressed the reaction surrounding his new Ferrari contract, particularly from those who have questioned whether remaining with the Italian team is the best route to achieving Formula 1’s biggest prize.

While Charles Leclerc is widely regarded as one of the fastest drivers of his generation, his time at Ferrari has yet to deliver a genuine championship triumph. Despite collecting multiple pole positions and memorable victories, the Monegasque currently has eight Formula 1 Grand Prix wins to his name.

That has inevitably led some observers to wonder whether Charles Leclerc might have been better served pursuing opportunities elsewhere. However, the Ferrari star made it clear that his commitment to the team remains as strong as ever.

According to Charles Leclerc, every major decision made by a Formula 1 driver is analysed and debated, particularly in today’s highly scrutinised environment. Yet he emphasised that there is always a human element behind those choices, and Ferrari remains the place where he feels most comfortable and most able to be himself.

Rather than seeking universal approval, the 28-year-old explained that his focus is entirely on fulfilling the dream that has motivated him since childhood: becoming Formula 1 World Champion with Ferrari.

The Monegasque suggested that this objective continues to drive him every day and remains the central mission of his career. He stressed that he wants to dedicate all the effort, sacrifice and commitment required to achieve that goal, ensuring that he never looks back with regrets about what might have been.

For Charles Leclerc, the decision to remain with Ferrari is about more than contracts or career calculations. It is about completing a journey that began long before he reached Formula 1 and fulfilling a lifelong ambition to bring championship glory back to the most famous team in motorsport.

With Lewis Hamilton now alongside him at Ferrari and a new era of Formula 1 regulations continuing to reshape the competitive landscape, Charles Leclerc clearly believes that his best opportunity to achieve that dream still lies in red.
