Following the appointment of Frederic Vasseur as the new team principal of Scuderia Ferrari, Charles Leclerc has commended his ability to assert authority within the Formula 1 team.
The French manager joined Scuderia Ferrari back in January, before the start of the 2023 Formula 1 campaign, succeeding Mattia Binotto after a promising 2022 season marred by strategic errors, power unit reliability issues, and operational mishaps from the Italian side, which was therefore not able to capitalize on the solid pace of the F1-75 in first part of the 2022 championship.
Having previously worked with Charles Leclerc during his debut year in Grand Prix racing in 2018 as the Alfa Romeo team principal, Frederic Vasseur’s arrival has indeed brought about a reduction in strategic blunders in the current season. However, the performance of the SF-23 car remains a concern, as the Maranello team is unable to challenge Red Bull this year and seems to have even fallen behind Mercedes in terms of race pace.
Despite the challenges faced by Scuderia Ferrari at the beginning of the 2023 Formula 1 championship, including significant design changes aimed at improving competitiveness, Charles Leclerc has expressed admiration for Frederic Vasseur’s positive influence on the Maranello team.

“At first, it was a very smooth introduction, he gets into the team and he doesn’t want to make huge changes,” the Monegasque driver explained in a recent interview following the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix – “That is not what we need, it’s slight changes that go in the right direction in terms of the way he thinks, and the way he put that target within the team I think is amazing. Then he has been very clear that he wants to strengthen the team with new people, which is always important as it gives a different point of view with people that are going from other teams.” – he explained.
“There are loads of small changes that are being made, and for me, I’ve always had an amazing relationship [with Frederic Vasseur]. We’ve been working together in the junior categories, in my first year in Formula 1, so he knows me very well. He’s also very honest with me, which is something that I really like and which I’m sure will help me along.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, which takes place next weekend.
