Just a year later, the two were back fighting on track—this time with much more freedom. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc went wheel-to-wheel several times throughout the race, delivering one of the best on-track duels of the Grand Prix. During this intense scrap, Charles Leclerc also accused Carlos Sainz of certain infringements, but the FIA completely ignored his claims. Here’s what he said over the team radio.
From the first free practice session of this sixth round of the Formula 1 season, Ferrari’s SF-25 never seemed to come to life. While the Sprint Race saw Lewis Hamilton secure a podium with third place, the main qualifying session turned into a disaster.
The seven-time world champion was eliminated in Q2, while Charles Leclerc only managed the eighth-fastest time. What stood out most in the final classification of qualifying was that Ferrari finished behind both Williams cars—a disastrous outcome for a team expected to respond more strongly in 2025.
Thanks to this on-track proximity between two of F1’s most historic teams, we saw Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc go head-to-head. For most of the first half of the race, Leclerc stayed within a second of his former teammate, closely observing the Spaniard’s driving.
Things heated up when Charles Leclerc, speaking over the radio with Bryan Bozzi, reported several rule violations committed by Carlos Sainz.
Charles Leclerc: “He cut the chicane and gained a lot from it, about six tenths. There’s no way he doesn’t get a penalty for that. Try to report it.”
Bozzi: “Yes, we’re reporting it.”
Despite the report, the FIA ignored the incident and did not issue any penalty to Carlos Sainz.
