Ferrari’s 2026 looks more uncertain than ever, but Charles Leclerc is still rallying the fans by throwing down the gauntlet to a rival.
2025 was a very difficult year for Charles Leclerc, who finished the season with zero victories due to a disastrous SF-25. On the other hand, the recently concluded campaign saw Lando Norris prevail over Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen to secure his first world championship. As a result, the Ferrari driver has now launched his challenge to the McLaren rival for 2026.
For much of the season, Norris appeared to be the second strongest force on the grid, before a clear step forward in performance allowed him to consistently get the better of teammate Oscar Piastri. In the final stages, a resurgent Red Bull with Max Verstappen tried to put him under pressure, but the British driver managed to come out on top in the title fight by just two points.
While the 1999-born driver was ultimately able to make the most of a highly competitive car, Charles Leclerc found himself battling against his SF-25, which caused him more than a few problems. The Monegasque driver still managed to secure seven podium finishes, but he remains far from having a car like the one that allowed Norris to triumph.
“It is the biggest dream for all of us”
Despite this, the 1997-born driver showed no resentment toward his British colleague. “This is what I love about our sport: the emotions,” Charles Leclerc told the media. “Beyond the desire to beat your rivals, seeing the happiness on the face of someone like Lando is something truly beautiful. It is the biggest dream for all of us on the grid, and this year he is living it. I am really happy for him, he deserves it.”
Charles Leclerc would have liked to play a more central role in the final year of the ground-effect era, but Ferrari ended the season with its worst Constructors’ Championship result since the difficult 2020 campaign. With the new regulatory era approaching in 2026, the Monegasque is now looking to the future with the aim of reducing the gap to the front. “Now it’s up to me to keep chasing him and, hopefully, make life more difficult for him next year,” he concluded.
As the Formula 1 community prepares for one of the most significant technical shifts in the sport’s history, the resolve shown by drivers like Charles Leclerc highlights the high stakes involved. While the 2025 season may have been a year of missed opportunities for the Scuderia, the focus has clearly shifted toward redemption. Fans around the world are now waiting to see if the iconic Maranello team can provide their star driver with the tools necessary to turn these warnings into race-winning reality. The battle for supremacy in this new era is just beginning, and the rivalry between the grid’s elite talents promises to be more intense than ever.
