Charles Leclerc admits that if Ferrari wants to fight for the world title, it must necessarily dominate the remainder of the 2025 F1 season.
Charles Leclerc’s season with Ferrari so far has been bittersweet, with no real chance to contend for the world title. There’s no doubt he’s extracting the full potential from the SF-25, but that simply isn’t enough.
A modest tally of three podiums speaks volumes about Ferrari’s current performance level, yet the Maranello talent continues to showcase all his skill. Team Principal Fred Vasseur has announced that the long-awaited upgrades will arrive in Austria and Great Britain, in the hope that they’ll be enough to bring the Scuderia back to the top.
In his post-Canadian Grand Prix comments, Charles Leclerc stated that team morale remains positive despite the poor results and that motivation within the squad hasn’t waned.
The Monegasque driver said: “It was a frustrating race and we’re a bit behind, more because of the starting position than the pace, as I don’t think the pace was all that bad. So yes, I’m just frustrated for not putting it all together. But apart from that, everything happening around us doesn’t really affect me.”
Regarding media speculation, Charles Leclerc said: “When rumors start to circulate, it can cause some distraction. But I don’t think we’ve really been affected by it.”
Keep pushing and see what happens
Charles Leclerc’s comments highlight how the team is working hard to overcome a very challenging situation. In terms of the championship, Ferrari has now lost second place in the Constructors’ standings, but Charles isn’t giving up. Regarding Ferrari’s chances of claiming the world title, he stated: “I think it will be difficult. If you look at the points, we are very far behind. From now on, we’ll need to completely dominate.” He added: “I think the best thing is just to take it race by race, trying to maximize the result, just like we’ve been doing.”
Austria is just around the corner—a circuit where Ferrari has typically performed well. The hope, even for those who love the spectacle of racing, is to see a competitive Ferrari once again.
