Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc feels that Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has proved he is “ready to win”, while at the same time Charles admitted that he would like to be involved in a fight with the Dutchman and Lewis Hamilton for race wins. Max Verstappen is currently engaged in a battle with Lewis Hamilton for the 2021 Formula One title, his first real title fight since entering the sport.
Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, can only hope to take advantage of possible incidents between Mercedes and Red Bull in order to be able to score some podium finishes this year, although the Monegasque driver secured two pole positions, in Baku and Monaco, on street circuits that are better suited to the SF21 car. All in all, Charles is spending his second consecutive season more often than not stuck in the midfield battle as Ferrari focus on the work needed for the 2022, when the Maranello team hopes to get back to the front of the Formula 1 grid.
The Monegasque admitted that he would like to see a young driver become World Champion and thinks Verstappen is ready, but cannot help but wish he was in contention himself – saying he misses being at the business end of things.
“I miss racing at the front,” he told Sky Italia – “I wish I was up there with Verstappen. He has shown he’s ready to win and is leading the championship. It would be great to see a youngster win the World Championship. But I am focused on myself. I want to win, so I don’t really pay attention to others.” – he explained.

Charles Leclerc is all but certain to be a Ferrari driver for a long time yet, given the fact that his current deal with the Maranello team is available until the 2024 Formula 1 season. And Charles confirms that he he is perfectly happy where is. What’s more, he is confident that with their mindset they will return to winning ways eventually.
“I’ve always viewed Ferrari as my dream even if we aren’t at the level of the other teams in terms of winning. The only thing that makes me dream is winning. We are fighting for positions that don’t give us a lot to dream about, but we are confident for the future. The team have the right motivation and this will be needed when we are fighting for the championship.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded, ahead of the 2021 Russian Grand Prix, which takes place next weekend.
