It may not have been an afternoon similar to the one in 2019, when Charles Leclerc won the Italian Grand Prix in front of the Tifosi, but it neither was the sad outcome of last year, when the Monegasque driver crashed at the Alboreto corner. Charles Leclerc’s fourth position in the Italian Grand Prix was an acceptable middle ground between these two very antithetical emotions. And, above all, it was the best that the Monegasque could aspire to taking into consideration the track characteristics and the characteristics of the SF21 car: a solid race, made up of focus, resistance, tenacity and even some unexpected overtaking, like the answer he tried to give Valtteri Bottas before the Finnish driver made the most of his faster car. Charles Leclerc couldn’t give more: these were his words after the race.
“I always put my heart in the race, today I tried everything, even fighting back against Bottas. We finished fourth, that’s okay, it’s one of my best performances in F1. I am really happy with today’s performance, even if when we are so close to the podium… “, the Ferrari driver told Sky Sport F1, letting a hint of disappointment shine through. “The car was good in every phase of the race, with the DRS train we were very vulnerable up to turn 1 and this made our race a lot more complicated. I gave 200%: the fans aren’t happy to see us fourth, but if we look at where we are now and where we were last year, it’s a big step forward. We are not yet where we want to be but we must admit that we have made giant steps forward.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
