Ferrari’s current drivers
Ferrari’s lineup for next Formula 1 season has been known for several months: alongside Charles Leclerc there will be Lewis Hamilton, who will make his debut with the ‘Prancing Horse’ replacing Carlos Sainz, who is set to start a new experience in F1 at the wheel of the Williams car. That’s the future, but the present still sees the Spaniard as the Monegasque’s teammate until the end of this Formula 1 championship.
Marc Surer’s opinion
Marc Surer, a former driver who competed in Formula 1 from 1979 to 1986, shared his opinion on the two Ferrari drivers. In an interview on the YouTube channel Formel1.de, the Swiss analyzed the qualities of the two Ferrari drivers, highlighting a particular difference: “Charles is the faster of the two drivers, but Carlos is more consistent,” he commented.
Carlos Sainz’s strengths
Excluding the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which the Spaniard missed due to appendicitis, and the retirement in the Canadian GP, Carlos Sainz has finished all other races this season in the points zone, never finishing lower than sixth: “Carlos Sainz always gets results,” he added. “He wins races that, in theory, he shouldn’t win. Even now, he occasionally returns to the podium, and people wonder: ‘Where did that come from?’ That’s Sainz; he knows how to do it.” said the former racing driver from Switzerland currently working as TV commentator and racing school instructor.
Charles Leclerc’s pros and cons
Carlos Sainz, like Charles Leclerc, has also secured a victory this season. However, Marc Surer is convinced that between the two Ferrari drivers, the Monegasque is the faster and performs at an “extremely high” level, but this also leads to more frequent mistakes compared to his Maranello teammate: “Charles Leclerc is always on the edge, and perhaps even his nerves are more on edge than Sainz’s, who seems more relaxed,” he concluded. “If you want to be world champion, you have to choose the fastest, and Charles Leclerc is the fastest.” – the former Swiss driver pointed out.
