For Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc this is the home race, an appointment marked with red on the calendar. Unfortunately for him, in all the previous events, both Formula 1 and Formula 2 he never finished the race. The last two times, first with Alfa Romeo Sauber and then with the Maranello team, Charles Leclerc was involved in a couple of accidents that forced him to retire. Needless to say, it is essential to reverse the trend already this weekend, also considering the presumed competitiveness of the SF21 on the streets of Monte Carlo, which was pointed out by many after the excellent third sector seen in Barcelona by Ferrari.
“It’s one of my favorite tracks, and it’s special being born here – said Charles Leclerc . I grew up in Monaco and I’m very happy to finally be here. But I have been quite unlucky in the past, and I hope this year things go differently. In 2018 it didn’t go badly: I didn’t get to Q3 but I was with Alfa, so it was a good result all in all, unlike the race. As for qualifying in 2019, I remember very well what happened: we opted for a very bad strategy, and it went as we all know. I have never managed to reach the top ten on Saturday, this year we have to do it”. – Charles explained.
“I love the track, but I’ve had a tough time here for the past three years, leaving out 2020 when we didn’t compete. I love this track and the street circuits in general, and I think it’s a fantastic feeling for all drivers to race here. It is a very, very technical circuit: there is the high speed part at the swimming pools, I love this challenge, that of trying to push the car to the limit, without ever going beyond it, otherwise you pay dearly for it. The third sector Barcelona? I don’t think it meant much for the performance in Monte Carlo: there were other factors there that played on our competitiveness in the third sector, because we probably managed the tires better in the other sections of the track and this gave us the opportunity to arrive at that point with tires in good condition, I don’t think we will benefit here, but let’s wait and see what happens. Realistically speaking, I think the goal is still to be ahead of everyone in the middle of the pack, as well as in Spain, we shouldn’t dream of fighting with Mercedes and Red Bull, we’re not at that level.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
