Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc admitted that the other Formula 1 teams will always “envy” the Maranello team. Charles Leclerc signed for the Italian side two years ago and during this time he has realized what it means to represent Ferrari in Formula 1, but also outside the track.
Despite the poor results in recent years, Scuderia Ferrari remain the only team to have raced in every F1 championship since the sport began in 1950. Taking into consideratio this aspect, the Monegasque driver believes thinks Ferrari’s fanbase is very special and unique.
“I know what they [the other teams] will never have and that only we have: the Tifosi, millions of fans around the world. The other teams will always be jealous of the passion that Ferrari creates.” – Charles Leclerc said in an interview for Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica.
However, Scuderia Ferrari did not manage to win a constructors’ championship title for 13 years, when Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa were driving for the Maranello team, while the last drivers’ title dates back to 2007 when Kimi Raikkonen won in a dramatic last race in Brazil.
Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has confirmed that he hopes to win the title in the next five years.
“I would make it shorter: let’s do it within two or three years!,” Leclerc jokingly responded.
“We have rearranged some things within the limits of what the regulations allow us. We cannot promise miracles, but we expect a season with good results in terms of engine and aerodynamics. I believe in the team and the people who work at Ferrari. I am 100 percent focused on my work and myself, trying to be the best version of myself. But that’s not enough and I’m not so arrogant as to think that I can achieve success on my own. On the track, the stopwatch makes a difference and everyone wants to be the fastest. Getting out of the cockpit though, you have to know that by helping the team you’re also helping yourself. For me it’s 33.33 percent for each of the three things [driver, car, team]. Everything has to work as well as it can, or you don’t win.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
