Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc admitted that his mindset has changed as compared to the past Formula 1 seasons, as he attempts to fight for his first Formula 1 title this year. After an impressive start to the new campaign, Charles Leclerc now enjoys a solid 34-point lead at the top of the World Championship standings ahead of Mercedes’ George Russell behind him, while the Maranello team have collected a total of 104 points in the Constructors’ rankings, 39 points in front of second-placed Mercedes and 49 ahead of Red Bull, who seem to be their main rivals this season based on the on track performance.
Charles Leclerc has battled for title during his junior career, but the Monegasque driver admits that it feels very different to be fighting at the top of Formula 1: “I’ve been in this situation in the junior categories but then, to be in this situation in Formula 1 means a lot,” – the Ferrari driver explained, after his dominant win the 2022 Australian Grand Prix at the Albert Park Circuit – “Especially after the last few years, and especially with a team like Ferrari, so it feels incredible.”
Scuderia Ferrari has had to face a difficult last two years, without being able to fight for race wins and Charles Leclerc acknowledges that his mindset is different in 2022 because he can now regularly challenge for victories and hopefully his first Formula 1 world title.
“Obviously, the mindset is a bit different compared to the last few years,” the Monegasque explained – “Because now I know that, underneath me, I’ve got a car that is capable of winning. I don’t really have to overdo things, or to do something extremely special and spectacular to actually get one or two positions, because I know that it’s in the car and and I just have to do the job. So the mindset is a little bit different this year.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
