For Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc, the Brazilian Grand Prix was a thrilling race, up until reaching the finish line at the Interlagos circuit. An intense race full of regrets for the Monegasque, who without the accident with Lando Norris could also have had a say in the fight for victory, even if it would have been difficult to put defeat the very fast Mercedes cars of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton today.
The Ferrari driver, who regained second place in the standings behind the uncatchable Max Verstappen, commented on the contact with Lando Norris, which took place immediately after the first Safety Car period: “Honestly, I gave him space on the inside, but of course I’ll have to look again. Maybe it wasn’t enough, but it seemed so to me. Maybe then he lost the rear, and at that point we touched. After this episode it was a difficult race, but we made a good comeback.” – he told Sky Sport F1 at the end of the 2022 Formula 1 Brazilian Grand Prix – “I was really surprised to be able to keep driving after that. I don’t know how much damage there was on the car, I think it wasn’t too bad fortunately, so we limit the damages on a difficult race.”
Charles Leclerc was also asked about his request to swap positions with Carlos Sainz in the final stages of the event, to be able to gain more points in the drivers’ standings: “We talked about it before the race! Otherwise I wouldn’t have asked for it but it is what it is.. Once again, I mean I don’t want to talk about it. Carlos drove a great race, he had issues too. We both deserved that position. He was in front. The team decided not to swap, it’s like that. Frustration was there in the heat of the moment but it’s what it is. Now we need to start thinking about Abu Dhabi and try to bring as many points as possible. The pace was good, not like that of the Mercedes, but apart from that it wasn’t bad. I have to focus on what I do, and I will make sure that I am in a better position in Abu Dhabi. It’s been a pretty frustrating weekend, so I want to go to Abu Dhabi, just do my race.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
