Another strategy error for the Ferrari team, this time in the final laps of the Belgian Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc was running in fifth place, with just about 20 seconds in front of Fernando Alonso behind him.
When asked if he would like to come in for a tyre change in order to attempt to take the fastest lap of the race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, the Monegasque driver replied that it was not worth the risk. However, the Maranello team continued with the plan and Charles Leclerc returned to the pits to put on a set off soft tyres, with the goal of securing the fastest lap of the race.
However, Charles has come out with Fernando Alonso right on his tail and he has overtaken by the Alpine driver. On the final lap, Charles regained fifth place on track, but was then given a five second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane and so he will finish the race in 6th behind Fernando Alonso.
