Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver and current World Championship leader Charles Leclerc is confident the Maranello team can make even more progress after the near-perfect start of the 2022 Formula 1 championship. Charles Leclerc scored two race victories this year, in Bahrain and Australia and has never finished lower than second place, proving an incredible potential and control in the process, so much so that he is already being tipped as the World Champion in-waiting.
With a solid lead over nearest rival George Russell, who sits in second place mostly as a result of his consistency rather than outright pace, things are looking great for Charles ahead of the 2022 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix this weekend. But at the same time, the Monegasque driver is aware of the huge responsibilities and expectations for 2022.
In this regard, Charles Leclerc is confident that Scuderia Ferrari are on a right development direction and has the processes in place to make sure that the F1-75 cars continues to improve and therefore keeps its strengths for the entire season, with the hope that he and the Maranello team can potentially finally put an end to the Scuderia’s title drought.
“To keep up with Red Bull in terms of development is going to be difficult, but it’s the same team that did this car that will work on the development for this year’s car, so I am confident.” – Charles Leclerc said, with just a few days ahead of the Imola race – “There is no reason for us to be on the back foot because we’ve done a great job, or the guys at Maranello have done a great job, building up this car for this year. There are some developments coming and I’m confident that it will go in the right direction. So yeah, I wouldn’t focus too much on the others. I think we need to focus on ourselves.” – he continued.
Charles Leclerc also pointed out one importat area of progress for the Italian side, which represents a clear improvement in how well they can adapt and adjust the plan depending on data, feedback and on track results: “Since the last two years, I’ve really seen a jump in the way we’ve analysed every weekend in the way we have identified also our weaknesses and how quick we were to react to try and get better in the places where we were struggling. So yeah, I am confident that the team can do a great job with development this year.” – he added.
