Ferrari, Charles Leclerc confident for 2024
Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc is experiencing the final races of the 2023 Formula 1 season with a sense of resignation and hope. It may seem contradictory, but these two states of mind coexist perfectly in the Monegasque driver, who has long surrendered to the dominance of Red Bull but simultaneously holds high expectations for 2024.
According to him, Ferrari has recognized the mistakes made in the design of the SF-23, which struggled with the wind and inconsistency in performance, especially when the car was prone to oversteer, a characteristic Charles Leclerc has always wanted in his cars. However, the Monegasque driver had to step back in terms of driving style to accommodate the endemic flaws of the car. With the hope, indeed, that 2024 could see him back among the frontrunners.
Charles Leclerc’s words:
“On the one hand, you always have to look at yourself, and I think we’ve learned a lot since Zandvoort, so we’re happy. Then, of course, Red Bull is still very far ahead, and McLaren is very fast on certain occasions, like at Suzuka. But all in all, I think there’s more happiness for what we’ve learned than sadness about the gap to Red Bull. I believe that with what we’ve learned, we can take a significant step in the future, and I hope it helps us close the gap to Red Bull as soon as possible,” he told journalists.
“The car’s issues are still present, and I think eliminating them will require an entirely new car. That’s a goal for next year,” he continued. “At the moment, when the car is oversteering, it’s extremely inconsistent, so we have to drive it on the understeering side. This hampers my style. I’ve tried to improve and understand ways to adapt my style, and it worked a bit more in Japan.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded following the Qatar Grand Prix.
