Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas has topped the times on Day 2 of pre-season testing, finishing ahead of Alpha Tauri’s Pierre Gasly. Gasly had to settle for P2 on the C5 compound, as the Alpha Tauri man finished with a best time of 1:30.413, while a very late time from Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll on the same compound moved him up to finish in P3.
After Carlos Sainz put in 56 laps in the morning session at the Bahrain International Circuit (the equivalent of 303 km in race distance) and a personal best of 1:33:072, Charles Leclerc continued the Maranello team’s testing session in the afternoon. And it was a productive session for the Italian side, as Charls managed to complete 73 laps in the second part of the day, bringing Ferrari’s total lap count of the day to 129. The Monegasque driver finished the session with the sixth best time, 1m30.886s, on the C5 tyres, which was 0.597 slower than Valtteri Bottas’best time of the day. On the long-run pace, Charles Leclerc wasn’t as quick as Gasly’s AlphaTauri. And Haas continue to struggle at the back of the grid.
