Las Vegas is a track where Charles Leclerc shone last year, so his fourth place in qualifying feels somewhat disappointing. The Monegasque will start behind George Russell, Carlos Sainz, and an incredible Pierre Gasly in what will be the third-to-last race of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Car number 16 struggled slightly when the pole position was decided, despite putting in a good lap in Q3. He ultimately finished about four-tenths behind George Russell, who will start on pole after a highly positive Saturday for Mercedes following their strong performance in free practice.
Charles Leclerc furious on team radio
After crossing the finish line at the end of Las Vegas GP qualifying, Charles Leclerc appeared quite angry over the team radio. The Monegasque complained about what he described as abnormal tire behavior.
Here’s the exchange between Leclerc and his race engineer:
CL: “What the h***! The tires behaved differently, d*** it.”
CL: “What happened with the tires? It felt like s***.”
BB: “Alright, Charles, we’ll take a look at it.”
CL: “What position are we in? P7, P10?”
BB: “I’ll give you the times later, but we’re fourth.”
